WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?

Physiotherapy is a health care profession aimed at restoring normal function and mobility back in people, especially when it is threatened by ageing, sport or work related injuries, long periods of inactivity, disability or disease.

Integrating clinical expertise with evidence-based research, our physiotherapists apply a wide range of drug-free techniques and adapt a ‘hands-on’ approach to firstly assess the underlying causes of your problem, whether it may be muscular, joint or nerve related, apply intervention and treatment as appropriate, educate you about managing your condition, and prescribe exercises to prevent the pain and help you to recover from either acute or chronic injuries.

At Main Road West Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Centre, we treat using a variety of techniques. They can include:

  • Joint mobilisation and manipulation

  • Soft tissue massage and deep frictions

  • Electrophysical agents (such as ultrasound, interferential stimulation, intermittent compression therapy, hot and cold packs)

  • Exercise prescription

  • Postural re-education

  • Taping and Bracing

Physiotherapists aim to identify and maximise human movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, and treatment and rehabilitation in partnership with their patients.
